Master Agent & Billing
Understanding the Anthropic Billing Split
Starting June 2026, Anthropic is introducing a separation ("split") between interactive and programmatic usage. Here’s why tamer remains the simplest path for your team.
Interactive Usage
Claude Web, mobile, and Claude Code in the terminal. Drained from your standard Claude Pro/Team message limits.
Programmatic Usage
Agent SDK, claude -p, and third-party apps. Drained from a new separate credit pool (e.g., $20/mo for Pro).
The Master Agent: A Standard User
Unlike "AI-as-a-service" platforms that require an API key (ANTHROPIC_API_KEY) and a separate Developer Platform account, tamer's Master Agent behaves exactly like a standard user on the terminal.
-
✓
No API Key: It uses your local interactive session (via
claude auth). - ✓ No Double Billing: Your agents use your existing message quotas. No need to top up separate API credits for third-party tools.
- ✓ Zero Splitting Friction: Since the Master orchestrates your local agents, you stay within your usual subscription without the complexity of new SDK credit pools.
Why This Matters
Anthropic has drawn a "line in the sand" between the human chatting and the agent automating. By encapsulating your local agents (Claude Code, Aider, etc.), tamer allows you to leverage multi-agent orchestration while staying on the "interactive" and "user" side of that line.
